With schools beginning their school year

With schools beginning their school year this week, I urge residents to be mindful of the increase in traffic as we navigate back-to-school congestion. With buses picking up passengers, children walking or riding their bikes, and parents dropping off their kids to begin the day, it is important we all slow down, practice patience and pay a little extra attention. I know we would all agree our children are the future of our community.

Updated magnet calendars from Waste Pro were distributed earlier this month. If you did not receive one, you can pick one up at Town Hall. Included in the calendar is a list of acceptable items for recycling. Remember, when in doubt, throw it out. The calendar is also available on our website.

As a reminder to residents working diligently to maintain their lawns and gardens this summer, please remember to clear grass clippings off the street. Although seemingly harmless, clippings pose environmental and traffic safety threats to our community. Grass clippings washed into our stormwater system can easily clog a pipe or “super charge” our bodies of water with nutrients that are supposed to be on lawns, not in natural waterways. Clippings also make the road surface slick which could result in a vehicle being unable to stop in time. Let’s work together to keep Mint Hill safe by keeping clippings off our streets.
