The Matthews Board of Commissioners has selected Becky Hawke to be the next Town Manager. Becky has served as the Assistant Town Manager for Matthews since 2016.

“I’ve had the privilege of working with Becky over the last six years, and I can say without a doubt - she is the best choice for this role,” said Mayor John Higdon. “Becky has demonstrated her ability to lead and inspire staff, solve problems creatively, and improve organizational effectiveness. We are very fortunate to have someone with her talent and skill set leading our organization.”

“I truly found a place to call home when I moved to Matthews six years ago,” said Becky. “The community pride, friendly people, and dedicated, talented staff all help make Matthews a great place to live and work. I am honored and excited for the opportunity to continue serving Matthews in this new capacity and I look forward to working with the Town Board and our employees to help achieve the Board's vision for Matthews.”

Prior to coming to Matthews, Becky was the Director of Human Resources and Public Relations for the Town of Christiansburg, Virginia and she got her start in local government serving in various roles for the City of Radford, Virginia. Becky earned a B.A. in Communication Studies from Hollins University, an M.S. in Corporate and Professional Communication from Radford University, and a Masters Certificate in Human Resources Management from Cornell University. She is a 2017 graduate of the Public Executive Leadership Academy and is currently completing a Master of Public Administration degree, both through the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. Becky is an active member of the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) and the North Carolina City & County Management Association (NCCCMA). She is also a Past-President of the Matthews Chamber of Commerce, served on the Board of Directors for the Matthews HELP Center for four years, and she volunteers for numerous animal rescue organizations.

The Board of Commissioners worked with Developmental Associates to conduct a nationwide search and hiring process.

Hazen Blodgett, who has served as Town Manager since 2003, announced his retirement last year. Hazen will retire on March 31, 2022. Becky will begin her new role as Town Manager on April 1, 2022.
