Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office issued the following announcement on Feb. 25.
Please join us in congratulating Major Daniel Johnson on being named 2022 CIT Officer of the Year. The award came as a surprise to Major Johnson during the 2022 North Carolina CIT Conference but certainly no surprise to us at MCSO!
Major Johnson was nominated by the CIT Coordinator in Mecklenburg County. Here's an excerpt of her nomination: Dan refers to himself as a “CIT Dinosaur” because he has been a part of the Mecklenburg County CIT Program for so many years. In fact, he was a student in the very first Mecklenburg County CIT Law Enforcement Class. He offers the historical perspective when we are floundering with a problem. He has a way of making a connection with all CIT stake holders. We are so thankful for Major Dan Johnson and his continuous efforts to support the CIT Program and bring others into our “CIT Family” as he refers to it.
We are so grateful for Major Johnson's dedication to Crisis Intervention Team training and to have him represent MCSO.
