Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools issued the following announcement on Feb. 11.
CMS student-athletes are making history across the state, winning competitions and setting records in individual and team events. The district celebrates their amazing accomplishments!
Khalila Corry of Mallard Creek High became the first female in school history and CMS history to sign a National Letter of Intent to wrestle in college. She will attend Lakeland University in Wisconsin in the fall. Khalila is the 2022 235 Lbs. Women's Invitational State Champion.
The Myers Park Women's Swim/Dive Team – Kayman Neal, Sofia Plaza, Kiley Wilhelm and Maya Gendzel – won the 4A State Swim/Dive Championship by capturing first in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:42.86. Kiley Wilhelm won the individual event title, while setting a new all-classification state meet record in the 200 Individual Medley with her time of 1:55.79.
The Myers Park Men's Swim/Dive Team was the 4A State Swim/Dive runner-up. The team – Spencer Freeman, Jack Guenther, William Berkeley and Graham Hohnbaum – lost to Green Hope by only one point and captured first in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:33.10.
CMS had three state champions in individual swim/dive events. Grace Rainey of Hough High set a state record in the Women's 100-Yard Breaststroke with 1:00.97. Tiesyn Harris of Butler High won the Men's 50-Yard Freestyle with 20.87, and Hough's Dean Treanor won the Men's 1-Meter Diving with 432.15.
Maya Gendzel and Graham Hohnbaum, both of Myers Park, won N.C. Farm Bureau Sportsmanship Awards.
