Town of Davidson issued the following announcement on Dec. 7.
Economic Development Manager Kim Fleming announced the winners of the 2021 Main Street Grant Awards. The Davidson Board of Commissioners allocated $15,000 in this year’s budget to fund the Davidson Main Street Business Grant to further their strategic goal of historic preservation. The goals of the program are to provide direct financial benefit to small businesses; retain and create jobs in association with small businesses; and spur private investment in association with small businesses located in our local historic district. Members of the Historic Preservation Commission Advisory Board reviewed the applications and awarded five grants.
120 S. Main LLC was awarded a $4,000 grant for work on the upstairs of the 5/3 bank building. This created additional office space, storage space, and space for a Pilates studio, taking what was once unusable space and turning it into space for thriving businesses.
Summit Coffee was awarded a $4,000 grant for their revitalization of Summit Basecamp. A Main Street institution, Summit completed an interior upfit including new floors, walls and paint so that patrons can enjoy this space for years to come.
New to Main Street Davidson, Side Bar Bottle Co. is opening in 2020 above Mandolino’s Pizza. They were awarded a $4,000 grant to upgrade the space as well as make it more energy efficient.
Mestizo was awarded a $1,000 grant for improvements made to the interior of their restaurant that will keep them serving up amazing fajitas and margaritas for all to enjoy.
Another long-time business on Main Street, Ben & Jerry’s received a $2,000 grant for improvements made to the interior of this beloved ice cream shop.
While these grants are for physical improvements to buildings, it really is the people that inhabit them that make this community what it is. We thank you all for your investment in Davidson’s Main Street and we wish you many years of happiness and success!
