Mecklenburg County Public Health’s Guidance for Halloween

Halloween

County of Mecklenburg issued the following announcement on Oct. 20.

Baking with pumpkins, taking hayrides and preparing your costumes aren't the only things on your October to-do list. Add the 3Ws- Wear a Mask, Wait 6 ft apart, and Wash your hands. And at the top of the list -- get vaccinated.

Mecklenburg County Public Health (MCPH) is offering guidance on keeping your family safe during trick-or-treating or other Halloween celebrations this year. COVID-19 is in our community. To reduce your risk of exposure, here is a flyer with safety tips. For Halloween 2021, there is a vaccine. The COVID-19 vaccine provides protection from the coronavirus by creating an antibody response. It is always better to prevent a disease than to treat it after it occurs.

MCPH is encouraging everyone:

  • Get the vaccine or booster if you are eligible.
  • Celebrate with your family at home or virtually.
  • Trick-or-treat outdoors in small groups and avoid crowds.
  • Wear a mask.
  • Get tested if you have come into close contact with anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19.
"If you're going to participate in Halloween activities or fall festivals, these are safest outdoors. Wear a mask when indoors and avoid crowded settings where social distancing is not possible. Most importantly, ensure you and your family members are vaccinated, and stay home and get tested if you have COVID-19 like symptoms," said Deputy Health Director Dr. Raynard Washington.

For more information about the COVID-19 vaccine and booster availability go to www.MeckNC.gov/COVID-19 or by calling the Public Health COVID-19 hotline at 980-314-9400.
