Town of Davidson issued the following announcement on Aug. 24.
Over the past two weeks, there has been an increase county-wide of laboratory confirmed infections, hospitalizations due to infection, and a slight increase in the average percent positive (13.2%). Mecklenburg County reports 55% of the total population are at least partially vaccinated and 51% of the total population are fully vaccinated within the county. There have been 60 cases recorded in our zip code from August 5- August 18. Our zip code continues to have the lowest COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents in the past 14 days in the county.
The board of commissioners called a special meeting on Thursday, August 19 to discuss implementing an interim mask mandate until Mecklenburg County’s policy takes effect later this month. The effective date of the county wide public health rule is August 31, 2021. The board voted unanimously in favor of a temporary mandate for facial coverings in all public indoor settings that will take effect immediately as of Thursday, August 19, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. The town mandate will remain in effect until Mecklenburg County’s health directive supersedes it on August 31, at which point the Town of Davidson’s mandate expires.
On August 20, the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County amended the indoor mask mandate to include clarifying language which will go into effect on September 20. The language needed to be added to better clarify that the indoor mask mandate applied to indoor public places in public and private business establishments, schools (public, private, or parochial), and both public and private colleges and universities.
At Tuesday’s meeting, the board of commissioners unanimously voted to approve a third amendment to the proclamation to include the clarifying language. This proclamation amendment went into effect August 24, 2021 at 6:20 p.m. (effective immediately) and will remain in effect through September 20, 2021, 11:59 p.m. or upon effective date of a Mecklenburg County Health Board of Health Rule whichever is first to occur.
