Multiple businesses from Charlotte and Cornelius were among 16 startup companies that received NC IDEA Foundation grants.
Charlotte-based Antlia Energy and CliniSpan Health and Cornelius-based DayWatt LLC will share the NC IDEA Foundation's $160,000 in grants along with the other companies from North Carolina, the nonprofit foundation said in a release. The individual grants are approximately $10,000. The grants are meant to "validate and advance their idea," the organization said in the release.
"Spanning cleantech to consumer products to medical devices and software, this group is a great representation of the diverse economic potential of the state," NC IDEA President and CEO Thom Ruhe said in the foundation's release.
The $160,000 in grants went to startups in various towns throughout the state. Since the program started in 2018, NC IDEA has awarded $770,000 to 77 startups.
The foundation said in the release that 161 companies applied for the award and went through a rigorous application process that spanned three months.
"For many of these young companies, it is their first external validation that they are pursuing something that can become a great company, and it is very rewarding for us to help them on that journey," Ruhe said in the release.
