Mecklenburg County recently released its 2019 summary of performance with regard to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Community Development Block Grant.
As part of an annual process, the report is designed to evaluate the success and progress of the initiative to improve urban areas and assist neighborhoods in need. At the outset of the grant, Mecklenburg Country established goals of improving economic mobility, addressing issues related to diversity and increasing access for affordable, safe housing for the members of several communities and neighborhoods.
According to the report filed last week, Mecklenburg County was able to attain its goals and reported success using the funds provided by the federal grant.
The Community Development Block Grant was established to help urban areas improve access to affordable housing. To remain compliant with the grant, counties must submit annual reports to summarize the use of the allocated funds and the progress in their community.
The report released last week includes the period from July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2020.
