Mecklenburg County Solid Waste and Sustain Charlotte said they canceled the planned Earth Day Event for 2020 because of the COVID-19 crisis but will honor Nourish Charlotte.
While Sustain Charlotte's Sustainability Awards honor many of the champions in future events, the county said in a Sept. 3 press release, the award event organizers wanted to note that Nourish Charlotte won the Recycling Excellence Award for 2020.
The Recycling Excellence Award criteria included creative or innovative solutions to reduce waste or recycling solutions that inspire and educate the public.
The local business, Nourish Charlotte, delivers plant-based, organic, and healthy food, the release said. The small business has taken the necessary steps in the past few years to decrease the amount of waste it produces. The company is also known for educating their customers on how to do the same.
"Please join Sustain Charlotte and Mecklenburg County in congratulating the two 2020 Recycling Excellence Award recipients: Nourish Charlotte and PNC Music Pavilion," officials said in the release.
