TOWN OF MINT HILL: Message from Mayor Brad Simmons

Covid 19 message from mayor

Town of Mint Hill issued the following announcement on Apr. 21.

Mint Hill Residents,

I hope you are all staying healthy during these unprecedented times. I commend all the parents trying to work while homeschooling their children. I see more families out in their yards doing activities. Moms, Dads, kids and pets all enjoying each other's company. Stay strong, we are almost through this and I'm proud of everyone.

Our Town Manager continues to meet daily with the Mecklenburg County COVID Policy Group. They are actively discussing ways in which a phased opening can be implemented. Additionally, the County (with representatives from the surrounding towns) is convening a business roundtable group to help inform and advise the Policy Group towards that end. We are starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Town staff are in the process of preparing the groundwork for the land use plan update by collecting mapping data and demographic information, market potential research, growth trends, transportation issues, future school sites, parks, etc. before bringing in consultants.

Mint Hill is doing a great job completing the 2020 Census. As you can see from the numbers below, we are currently in the middle of the pack. If you haven't completed the 2020 Census, I encourage you to take the time to make a difference. Let's work together on getting our response rate numbers up. Remember, by completing the 2020 Census, you will help shape the future of Mint Hill.

2020 Census Response rates of 4/18:

Matthews: 60.8%

Huntersville: 59.3%

Cornelius: 57.3%

Davidson: 57.2%

Mint Hill: 53.3%

Charlotte: 49.1%

Pineville: 42.7%

Waste Pro continues to provide full service to the Mint Hill community. Last week's storm and everyone working in their yards has created extra work for them. They are running about a day behind on yard -waste pick up but should be caught up in the next couple days. Thank you all for your patience.

I continue to hold office hours Tuesdays from 1:00-4:00 pm and Thursdays from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm. Feel free to call me with any questions or concerns at 704-563-3860.

Stay safe, stay well, stay home!
