County of Mecklenburg recently issued the following announcement.
The 15th Annual Salute to Heroes Hockey Game will take place on Sunday, March 29, 2020, 3 p.m., at Bojangles Coliseum. Each year, the Charlotte Fire Department, Mecklenburg EMS Agency, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, and Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office take to the ice to benefit families of fallen or injured public safety members.
The CFD/MEDIC team leads the series 8-6, with CFD/MEDIC winning last year 5-2. The teams play to honor those who serve, have served, and those that have been lost in the line of duty. This community event is a great opportunity for local youth, who may aspire to have a career in public safety, to interact with public safety members.
Before the puck is dropped, the public is welcome to a remarkable public safety display from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in the Bojangles Coliseum parking lot. Look for the fire trucks, ambulances and our collection of law enforcement vehicles.
Over the past 14 years, the Charlotte Heroes Hockey game has raised more than $410,000 in donations and gifts to support public safety families in need from public safety organizations in North and South Carolina. Additionally, along with funds raised, a marrow match was identified from a previous "Be the Match" donor registry drive.
Tickets are $10 when purchased from a participating public safety organization and $12 when purchased at the Bojangles Coliseum Box office or online at CharlotteHeroesHockey.com. Parking for event is FREE.
